This Collection Statement describes how HealthEngine collects and handles personal and sensitive information when you use the Commonwealth-procured booking platform (Commonwealth booking platform). This notice is provided pursuant to Australian Privacy Principle 5.
Commonwealth-procured Booking Platform and Personal Profiles
HealthEngine collects and uses your personal and sensitive information to provide online booking services to you, to facilitate appointments with medical practices, healthcare practices, pharmacies and other organised or incorporated bodies that provide health services (Health Professionals), and to communicate with you about these appointments.
Why we collect your booking information
HealthEngine collects your name, date of birth and contact details (address, email address and contact number), from you at the time that you use the Commonwealth booking platform to make a booking with a Health Professional. You also have the option of providing your Medicare card number and details through the Commonwealth booking platform ahead of your COVID-19 vaccine appointment. These will be used to assist your provider during your appointment and for Medicare claiming by the practice.
When you create a personal profile on the HealthEngine Network, we will store that information securely in the HealthEngine database for the purpose of making your future interactions with HealthEngine more convenient.
The primary reason HealthEngine uses your personal information is to provide the services you have elected to receive.
HealthEngine may also use your personal information:
- to contact you about your use of the Commonwealth booking platform; and
- to facilitate communications between you and Health Professionals such as to remind you of an upcoming appointment, to confirm a booking or to provide you with information regarding the health service you have elected to receive.
HealthEngine may also use your personal information for de-identified data analytics to help us improve the Commonwealth booking platform service, and our users’ experience, including by monitoring aggregate metrics such as total number of visitors, traffic, and demographic patterns.
Who do we disclose your booking information to
HealthEngine discloses your personal information to Health Professionals so that health appointments can take place. HealthEngine also collects personal information from Health Professionals, for the purpose of communicating with you about your appointments with the Health Professional.
HealthEngine has been contracted by the Department of Health (Department) to develop the Commonwealth booking platform. As such, HealthEngine may also disclose de-identified personal information to the Department to support the monitoring and progress of the COVID-19 vaccine rollout. To learn more about how the Department will collect, hold, use and disclose your information, you should read the Department’s privacy policy carefully, as well as the Department’s privacy notices for the Commonwealth booking platform.
HealthEngine may disclose your personal information to third party service providers who support our business activities (such as IT and software service providers, security entities that minimise risks and block suspicious behaviour such as Google reCAPTCHA, and our professional advisers such as lawyers and auditors).
HealthEngine will not disclose your personal information for secondary purposes.
HealthEngine does not disclose your personal information to overseas recipients.
Retention of personal information
Where HealthEngine has collected personal and sensitive information through the Commonwealth booking platform on behalf of the Department of Health, HealthEngine will return, retain or destroy that personal information in accordance with its agreement with the Department.
If you do not want us to collect your booking information
You are under no obligation to provide us with your booking information, and you can continue to use other features of the HealthEngine Network without doing so. If you do not provide your personal information to HealthEngine, we may be unable to provide you with our online booking services.
